Blog post #1 - due Monday, May 23
Dear students,
Welcome to our class blog! In the future, I will consider your choices for blog topics. For this first one, however, I have chosen one of my favorite topics: art. Please answer some or all of these questions:
1. Do you like art?
2. What kind of art do you like ( or dislike)? Do you prefer representational or abstract art?
3. Who is your favorite artist?
4. Which museum in New York is your favorite?
5. Which museums in other cities have you visited?
6. If possible, post a photo of a work of art that you like, for all of us to look at.
Finally, please react briefly ( in 1 or 2 sentences) to the photos and comments of your classmates.
I hope you will enjoy thinking and writing about this topic. I surely look forward to reading your postings.
Happy blogging!
Diana
Thank you Diana.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time that I use Blogger.

Hi, Gil. I also love opera, and have heard Diana Damrau at least once. I agree with Amy who says that she looks like Meryl Streep. I had never thought of that!
DeleteI have also been to the Guggenheim Museum in NY and the Prado in Madrid, but not recently.

ReplyDeleteShe looks a little like Meryl Streep, one well-known actress of the Hollywood, but both of them have displayed the great talent to their fans in the region of art.

ReplyDeleteSpecifically speaking, I like a myriad of art forms, including Literature, Music, Sculpture, Painting and so on. Among diverse variety of art styles I prefer representational art at best like the serenade, the wonderful work with cheerful and brisk melody, created by Mozart. The curiosity also leads me not to miss any great place when I stayed in a new city, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY, The Place museum in Beijing, which did increasingly help to broaden my horizon and comprehend cultures from different periods.
ReplyDeleteYou are very talented. And I think you know I lot about classic music. Maybe you should listen to the symphony by New York Philharmonic on live.

ReplyDeleteIt's cheerful music. I like it.
DeleteYes, I agree. I love classical music too, and Mozart is one of my favorite composers. The Serenade you posted is beautiful.

ReplyDeleteNice song. You may come across Taylor on the street. She lives in Tribeca.
DeleteI very like it.
Delete6. I think the song STYLE written by Taylor Swift is beautiful. especial the sentence '' You got the James Dean look in your eye.'' I think the song present a story about a girl already known her lover is a bed guy, but she can't leave him. Because she love him. Also I think the lyrics is written so fluently. So I love the song. Please watch the MV in Youtube.
ReplyDeleteFrances, thank you so much for teaching me about Taylor Swift.I had heard of her and knew she was famous, but never had heard her music until now. Listening to song lyrics is a very good way to practice English, too.
DeleteI also didn't know she lived in Tribeca!
I like art sometimes. For example, representational paintings, such as, human's or women's rights or the ones that inspire me to work harder. I am actually not very interested in art, and that's why i have no favorite artist. My favorite museum in New York City is the natural history museum. I have been to others. However not as good as this one. The one i have visited is in Saudi Arabia and it is called science center.
ReplyDeleteI will post a piece of art in another post.
I hope to visit the natural history museum.

ReplyDeleteThis painting inspires me of the importance of reading, and that we can always encourage each other to read. It raises the awarness, and it is the right thing to do in your free time so you can always have the ability to discuss with others about the topics you read and teach each other new information. I think also that it should start from the childhood so the child can take it as a habit and that will reflect on the child's personality amazingly.
Who did paint this?
DeleteThis painting is wonderful! I, too, would like to know who the painter is, and where it is located. Thanks, Wasmiah, for your very wise advice to your classmates about the importance of reading. Of course, I agree with it.
Delete1. I really like arts.

Dear students,
DeleteThank you very much for all your comments, which I was not able to see over the weekend. A point of clarification: my questions were about ART, which refers to the visual arts only ( painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.). The ARTS ( with an -S) is the more general term referring to art, music, ballet, etc. However, don't worry. I will not count off if you talked about music too. My main purpose here is to get you to communicate in writing about something interesting!
Thank you also for posting websites for your classmates to look and listen to. I will check those out over the weekend and comment on those individually. There is another way to post audios and videos, but I will have to show you that on Wednesday.
See you then
Diana
Marwah, I tried to access the Ataturk Museum website, but couldn't. It must be interesting. Is it in Istanbul? I have been to Istanbul, and I think that it is a beautiful and fascinating city.
DeleteVery good , please tell me about something you did before
DeleteDear students,
ReplyDeleteThank you again for taking the time to post all the above websites.( which I have finally checked out ). I really appreciate all the interchanges you had with each other on the blog. That is, after all, the main purpose of it.
Happy long weekend to all,
Diana
Crafts
ReplyDeleteIndeed, crafts is my favorite kind of art . I like crafts, because it is often with recollections. In my opinion, crafts is main part of our celebrations , so we can said it is our happy days . Surely, souvenirs and masterly things are the best way to show our emotions. Wooden doll is a part of local culture in Russia , so crafts can be a big value .Extremely rare, one of us visit any country without purchasing handmade crafts , due to we want to feel the same feeling when we spent nice time . The leaders present each other heritage crafts , because it's a sign for their civilizations . Likewise , crafts can create many opportunities , so we can get good income from this art .
Regards
Wail

DeleteDear students,
ReplyDeleteNow that I have heard from most of you, I will answer my own questions. My favorite sport and form of exercise is swimming. I have been swimming since I was a child, but have never been on a team. I am not good enough! I do it to stay fit and because I enjoy it. It makes me feel really good.
As for spectator sports, I am really not interested in them. However, when I was in college, I went to lots of football games ( American football, that is). Football was very popular in Texas then. That's what everybody did on weekends.
That's all for now.
